So as most of you know, by now anyway, the August marathon was canceled. This was posted on the Facebook page but issues came up and a post here was forgotten. That being said the reasoning behind not having the marathon are pretty simple and two-fold.
First, the charities we had contacted in the hopes of doing the marathon for never got back with us on whether or not we could in fact raise money for them. We could have defaulted to raising money for Child's Play but they certainly get more than enough attention from other groups and the Mario Marathon and Desert Bus funnel a ridiculous amount of money to them annually, though that isn't to say their cause isn't worth our attention. Just that they have more than enough attention already and we would like to put ours toward another organization. So yes, we were looking at having a marathon with no charity and that isn't in itself a bad thing (we could certainly just have fun with everybody and do a casual stream) but...
The second reason is that due to a number of issues coming up in Jerry's and my lives as well as the lives of the other people who were going to be participating in the marathon, no one had gotten much of a chance to practice their games and so the whole ordeal would have been very poorly handled, most likely hearkening back to our first marathon (poorly produced, though fun it was). We decided that instead of presenting an inferior product, we would cancel and try again later.
So what does that mean in terms of the marathon? Well, the community choice marathon will likely be the first marathon we do next year instead of our typical Zelda marathon. We think that's fair in regards to this issue. There has also been talk of potentially doing a short 24 hour event around Halloween, though nothing is set in stone concerning that and as information about that gets hammered out we'll let you know (I'll make a point of it not to forget to post here this time). There is also the occasional streams being done, though right now it's just me. Notification on those are on the Facebook page often, and occasionally notification gets posted here as well.
There you have it, the state of things as they currently stand. Admittedly it isn't the prettiest of situations but we're not down for the count yet. If nothing else, next year will be a year of renewal as we rise from the ashes and start doing things right again. So please do bear with this snag and look forward to things to come.
